Jeff Hughes
JEFF HUGHES began his theatre career as an Irish-American Tevye in the Roosevelt School sixth grade production of Fiddler on the Roof in Kearny, New Jersey. The performance left such a mark on Hudson County theatre, he was asked to reprise it at Holy Family Academy in Bayonne as a junior in high school. His first professional theatre job was at New York's Irish Arts Center on West 51st Street where he served a series of technical roles, including lighting and sound coordinator for the American debut of the play Poor Beast in the Rain. For its last two years of existence, he served as the Assistant Artistic Director at Musical Theatre Works under Randy Ellen Lutterman and Thomas Cott. After its untimely closing in July of 2004, he became the Director of Artists Services for the inaugural New York Musical Theatre Festival and served as the venue director for the 45th Street Theatre. He is currently the Associate General Manager of the Helen Hayes Theatre on Broadway. Jeff began his writing career as a film academic and critic, culminating in a Cinema Studies degree from New York University's Tisch School of the Arts. His film criticism has appeared in many New Jersey-based newspapers including The Jersey Journal and The Hudson Press (where he served as chief critic). He published two essays as a student at NYU, including Showtime, Folks: The Films of Robert Louis Fosse which he's currently developing into a full-length book with Professor Robert Sklar.Jeff's first play, Shore Points, will be presented at the Irish Arts Center in August of 2005. He is currently musically adapting Richard Vetere's novel The Third Miracle with the author and composer Scott Ethier. He is a proud member of The Dramatists Guild.
