Jay S. Harris
JAY HARRIS was an attorney in New York City and the founder and producer of Weissberger Theatre Group; together they received the 1999 Tony Award for Best Play for their production of Side Man by Warren Leight, which they originally produced Off-Broadway at the CSC Theatre. Mr. Harris/Weissberger Theatre Group produced on Broadway the musical Never Gonna Dance based on the Fred Astaire/Ginger Rogers classic film Swing Time and co-produced the musical Dirty Rotten Scoundrels. Mr. Harris hosted a weekly radio program entitled One Great Song on WMNR-FM in Monroe, Connecticut. Mr. Harris and Weissberger Theatre Group's earlier Off-Broadway theatrical productions include Down The Road by Lee Blessing; Freefall by Charles Smith, which was nominated for seven AUDELCO Awards; Dates and Nuts by Gary Lennon; Where The Truth Lies by Catherine Butterfield; the musical Enter The Guardsman; and Tamicanfly by Scott Marshall Taylor. He wrote TV Guide: The First 25 Years published by Simon and Schuster and was the Executive Producer of four TV Guide related primetime NBC specials. He served on the Board of Directors of the Williamstown Theatre Festival and was a 30-year veteran of the Board of Directors of The American Theatre Wing, for whom he also served as a member of the Tony Award Administration Committee.
