Betsy Capes
BETSY CAPES founded Capes Coaching in April 2004 after six successful years casting and directing New York theatre. Her mission is simple but ambitious: to create a new type of actor in the entertainment industry, the Empowered and Fulfilled Actor. Betsy has led the Capes Coaching team in developing a new method of personalized coaching that helps actors take their careers to the next level. She has coached over 1,000 actors to creating successful careers in film, television, theatre, and beyond. Betsy's professional career started at the Manhattan Theatre Club where she was on the casting team for the critically acclaimed original productions of Proof, The Tale of the Allergist's Wife, and more. Other casting credits include: Crazy Jane on God and Bridges & Harmonies (The Drama League), Twelfth Night (The Public Theater), The Lion King (Binder Casting), Pacific Overtures (Roundabout Theatre Company), and the national tour of Tick! Tick! Boom!. Directing credits include: Patient A by Lee Blessing, The Loveliest Afternoon of the Year by John Guare, Pvt. Wars by James McLure, Hunter and the Irish Giant by Glen Berger, and Bobby Gould in Hell/No Exit with Shuvi Productions. As an assistant director, Betsy worked with Christopher Ashley on David Lindsay-Abaire's Wonder of the World at MTC. Betsy continues her work as a casting director, teaming with Dani Super to form Super/Capes Casting , a division of Capes Coaching. Betsy holds a BFA in Acting from the University of Illinois and has done post-graduate work in drama therapy. She is a member of the International Coaching Federation (ICF), and has presented acting career seminars for The Learning Annex, The Atlantic Theater School, One on One Productions, Manhattan Theatre Source, COCA St. Louis, Pace University and was recently a workshop coach for Bobby McFerrin's Instant Opera at Carnegie Hall.
